Got my New (to me) CTD
I picked up my CTD yesterday from West Virginia. Man this thing is awesome! Some specs:
2001 Ram 2500 Quad Cab Long Box
Cummins HO w/ 6 speed and 3.55 final drive
125k
White/silver split tone
16psi idle, 8psi WOT
Mods: FASS, 100HP injectors, Edge Comp, BHAF filter, Isspro gauges, 2in level kit.
Anyways, along with the new truck comes some newb questions! I'll probably be asking a few. First is though, I did alot of reading about additives. It's obvious you have to use something for the ULSD. Previous owner said he always used Stanadyne. I was going to use Power Service since it's available all over here. What I was curious about is adding 2 stroke oil. I asked the PO about it and he said don't sweat it, but it seems an AWFUL lot of you use it. I figured I would too, seems like it can't hurt. I just wanted to know what is a good brand and how much per gallon is typical? Every fill up?
One last thing, for now, the local station has B20. I was thinking getting 3/4 tank regular then 1/4 tank B20, in effect 'making' my own B5 to clean/lube the fuel system. Will I need to change the fuel filter right after this or is B5 'tame' enough that I don't have too.

I'd go with the B20 if you can get it. I don't have the link, but there was a fuel additive test, and the Bio fuel (I think they only used 2%) outperformed everything else lubricity wise.
Most guys that use 2stroke use the Walmart Supertech stuff. Thats what I was using, and it did help quiet my engine down a tad, but I didn't have any mileage gains like some guys experienced with it. What ever you use, make sure it is the ashless stuff. I was using a quart of it to every tank. I'm now trying LubeControl's Fuel Power additive. My mileage has gone up, but I also added a Edge EZ at the same time switched to the FP, so I don't know how much it has actually helped. Hohn has a thread started in the General Diesel section about his improved winter mileage using the Lube Control products.

Sounds good. I'll add a couple gallons of B20 to a 4/5 full tank or something like that, to get some lubricity. Maybe I'll get some 2 cycle after I calculate MPG's and see what it's like!

Looks like a nice clean truck you got there Brian . Did you fly out and drive it back how far was it ? I am just now putting together the trip to get mine home from Nevada about 2200 hundred miles. I thought all the clean trucks were already there with you in Texas Thats where i got my 99 dually left belton flat towing a 74 power wagon at 4pm on a sat and got home 11pm sunday a little over 1500 miles stopped at a rest area and slept for 5 hours once.
I use the wadlermart 2 cycle in the 99 works good makes it a little quieter and i know the VP is getting lubed. The bio will do good for you to all you need is one of the two no need to do both. Enjoy your new ride keep it clean and straight

I forgot to mention; I am not in Texas yet. I am still living in Ohio, until the end of this month, then I move to Beaumont for my new job with ExxonMobil. I am graduating from college next week!

Can't wait to start playin' with this thing! I've only had the Edge box up to level 2 until I get used to the clutch and watching the EGT's, just to be safe.

Do the bio. It's the best thing you can do for now. The Walmart stuff woked great for quieting the motor down but 0 for mpg gain.
Nice truck. You will love it. Start saving for a new(but rebuilt) VP-44 it's just part of being a 2nd gen 24 valve owner. As we say.....get used to it , man. There is a list of tools you need to carry with you so you don't get stranded. Just a heads up. Start with a new fan belt.
Most guys do something with the exhaust. Either straight pipe or 4 inch at least. Be carefull around the cops with the straight pipe however.

PO had the VP44 replaced 25,ooo miles ago, along with the new one he got the FASS, so I'm hoping it'll last another 100k. I'll be sure to get a fan belt.
Central Ohio just got about 5 inches of snow, now the truck is all dirty! I did get to test out the 4WD though!
