Good glue for rear view on windshield?

My rear view mirror fell off the windshield, dangling by the wires. Has anyone had any sucess gluing one of those back on? Any products to avoid?
Thanks for the help

I remember My dad buying some stuff at the parts store specifically for the mirror, I was a wee lass though and it was for our 76 Chevy fan with **** carpeting.

Make sure you get the windshield and the button really clean, use acetone or laquer thinner after you scrape the old glue off.

I havent had much luck with that stuff sold in kits for rear view mirrors. The best thing i have ever found is clear silicone or the goop glue sold at walmart and lowes/homedepot.the automotive kind in the red tube works good.I can tell you i have never had one drop off again after replacing it on the windshield. The one in my van has been stuck on there for about 4 years. just clean the windshield good like the guys said above . use a dollop of the silicone on the little metal disc, stick it up there and hold in place with a couple pieces of masking tape.Let it dry a couple days is best and your all set.

Get the permatex brand.

PIAA sucked. It was so spongy the mirror danced to beat the band so I tore it back off (which wasn't hard) ;-)

I had good success with the mirror glue kits from Loctite. (The light hardening type)
Clean good before application, and well, clean again, then clean it once more and you are almost set. Clean and apply That worked for me.
Other good stuff is made by Berner, but I think it won't be available in the US.

Tour into a glass shop. They usually do it for nothing or a minimal charge. Will take them 30 seconds.
Failing that Ford (eek!!!!) has a great adhesive that comes in a little package. Has all you need. Used many and they work well.

I've used ACC (CA) glue with success.

Just don't wiggle for 30 seconds while holding the mirror to the glass.

I work at a glass shop, we glue them on all the time....Loc tite is the brand that we use, it is a two part. If you have a shop in your area stop in they will do it....slide the guy a few bucks for taking care of you. Plus they will give you a better deal when your ready for a new Windshield next time

If you do it your self. This is a tip ... Take a Sharpie and out line the glue (from the rear view mirror button) on the out side of your Windshield. Then get a blade and clean off the glue on the inside. Use the Primer part of the kit and put it on the button. This is eat away at the old glue. Then clean off the button really good. Primer it and let the Primer dry. This is where most people have problems. They put way to much glue on it. Three pen head drops will hold that puppy on for you!! You can also Primer the Windshield, and since you used your sharpie you know how and where to line up the old button.

Hope that helps
