Getting more height out of seat

So im all legs and hardly any torso. Great for riding motorcycles, not so good for trying to get a commanding look over the dash of a Ram.

2" would be ideal and I want it to look factory (i.e. no phone books, pillows, removable seat cushions, etc). Would I be better adding material to the seat or rising it at the rails or floor? Anybody done this? I know the best way would be to get a power seat but they arent cheap.

I put a set of Volvo leather power seats in mine and used the factory dodge brackets. It was not a direct swap by far but that combo will give you the height your looking for.The seats cost me $100 from a wrecking yard and about a day of time to install and wire.I'll get some pics later.

Most professional looking way would be to get some AL blocks and make spacers. If your going to go 2" you'll need to bolt the seats to the blocks and the blocks to the floor. 2" might be a bit high for safety though, you'll be changing the dynamics and giving a big lever to break on hard stops.
I did sort of the same thing on my '79 Trans Am. the front of the seats were very uncomfortable so I added a 1.5" spacer to the two front mounting points and 1/2 to the back. It raised it enough to give leg support on long trips.

I'm 5'11'' so not a big guy, but usually have the seat all the way back-

PO of my '96 put AL blocks under the front of the drivers side seat. Lifted it about an inch higher. I don't know the PO, but did find a 6XL tag for a leather jacket when I was cleaning out the truck right after my purchase.

So it's an option just to lift the front of the seat to angle it back. I left them in and have the seat a notch or two up from the farthest back.

I personally dont like the washer idea. If you were ever in a car wreck - Im not sure how safe that would be. You must be able to do a little better than that.

i don't think that was meant as a personal attack. seriously, a stack of washers is never a good solution. and a stack of washers under a car seat is no exception.

I used washers as a proof of concept. After I was sure it would work then I made the Aluminum blocks. I'm pretty sure that the 1.5" square blocks were as secure as the stock to the floor bolting.
With the right bolt and washers that are wide enough to give a solid mount there is no reason why it wouldn't work...I just thought it looked a little "rigged".

Why not just go to a junkyard and find a truck with power seats and trade them out? If I remember correctly they have the wiring under the seat just waiting on them. I'm almost positive mine does. I wouldn't think they'd make a different wiring harness for every different optioned truck. A new set of front seats shouldn't cost that much from a junkyard, especially when you consider what you'll end up with. Just my .02
