genos dash cover and heater core replacement

Just wanted to make sure that people knew this wasn't the same post as the cracked dash marathon thread. Yes, I do have the cracked dash, with cracks running though the entire thing (as in minimal structural rigidity left). I've ordered the Geno's dash cover to fix that, however, I also need to replace my heater core, meaning the dash must be removed or at least stressed as I take the core out. My question, should I install the dash pad before I take the heater core out to hold it together, or should I go ahead and remove the heater core, then take the entire dash out and glue the pieces to the cover like a jig saw puzzle (it will fall to pieces when I undo the bolts I'm sure). I'm leaning towards the far more difficult second option as I would then be able to reinforce it in some areas to avoid future problems.

Thanks in advance.

If you are pulling the dash out anyway, why not replace it? Not that much more work and the fit will be way better. Cost shouldn't be much more either.

The dashs are around $400 at the dealer and are on nationwide backorder.

I ordered my dash cover from coverlay manufacturing. They are $115 and come in the color of your choice.

BTW, I did my heater core then put the cover on.

Is that for the entire dash assy? I just replaced the plastic part on mine, about $160 a year or so ago.

I have a question. If the dealer replaces the heater core and evaporator and cracks the dash during removal is he responsible for a new one? Anyone ever run into this?

I was in the same boat as you and installed a Genos cap. It never did look 100% right so I bit the bullet and ordered one from Dodge. Call these people at www.wholesalemopar.com. They had several in stock when I called and I believe it was $250. If they ask, you will need (1) side kit...I believe that's what they called it and go ahead and get the plastic clips that go in the firewall that the dash attaches to. I broke 4 out of the 5 and had to wait 3 more days for them to come in. Don't waste your time with the cap especially since you're replacing the heater core. Might as well put a new evap core while your at it. Good luck and on a beer scale, its a 7 beer job.
