gauges in the drop down cup holder area?

well the dog stepped on the cup holder today and broke the ends off. so i was looking at it thinking of fixing it and thought why not mount my gauges on the top and make the bottom close down to a small storage box under neath it?

has anyone seen this before? i never close the cup holder as it usually ends up with crap stuffed behind the bracket that folds out when you fold it down. any opinions about it? will i be able to route wires and such to that area under the dash?

thanks for any advice!

I had my XM radio mounted on mine for a long time. I recently moved it but I still usually keep the tray open. I think it would be a good idea. I just made a small gauge mount with some polished alum. diamond plate. It turned out awsome. It was easy to work with. I clamped it between two 2X4's and tapped it with a rubber mallet to bend it. A 2" hokle saw made easy work of making the hole for the gauges.
