Fuel guage stuck. Was on F now on E

fuel guage sticks full sometimes. I hit the tank with a malot and it usually starts reading correctly. This time when I hit it it went from stuck on Full to being stuck on Empty. Did I just kill my sending unit?

You could try loosening the locking ring and turning the fuel module a little, but the sender is likely done.

Word of Caution for you. A coworker had some problems with his '02 it was stalling, after replacing his lift pump and putting 5 gallons of fuel in his tank it quit on him again. All the while the fuel gauge was reading half full. Long story short he ran it out of fuel without knowing it and had to replace the vp44 and a second lift pump under warranty.

These 12 valves seem to have a history of the fuel sending unit going south. I have had to replace mine. Sounds like you will have to do the same.

Just make sure to buy the sending unit only, about $45
Many dealers will try to tell that you have to buy the entire $300 module.
This isn't true.

there is a mod you can do to the sender to keep the contacts touching, it is supposed to help, and bill is 100% right, the dealer might tell you the sender is not seperately available...it is and bout' $45.00.

somtimes if i fill my truck to full (like to the brim) the floater can get stuck, keep track of how many miles you put on the tank, once you put bout a 100 miles on it and it still say full, wiggle the fuel lines on the tank and then put on a steel toed boot and give it a good swift kick or two to knock the floater down and you should be good to go.

with the tank half full now the needle goes from Full to Empty with the swaying fuel in the tank. Time for a sending unit. Thanks for the replies...

How hard is it to replace the sender unit? The guage floats around the 1/4 mark until I hit the pedal and it sinks to E
