Unhappy Fuel Guage Reading High

Hey everyone, I have been reading through here for a while, I have an annoying problem, I just recently discovered that my fuel guage is reading about an 1/8 tank higher then the actuall fuel level, the sender is not hangin up internally that I can tell, and it will travel to full and then back down, but not lower then 1/8th. I found this out the hard way, ran her out of fuel, luckily I saw the fuel pressure start to jump, shut her down and got some fuel in her. Anyone know what might be causing this? I was thinking the sender was going out, but I have never had one read higher when going out.

Thanks

Sounds like the sender. They are notorious for failing. My roommates just quit on him. Said he was getting 520 miles to half a tank.

P.S. I'm the roommate and I was being sarcastic about thinking my milage was that good.

That was one of the ways that I knew something was up, when I saw my fuel pressure jumping around, thought the electric pump was head out again, then saw that I had like 600 miles on my tank, and I wasnt doin any highway driven.

Unless someone wants to donate a sender to "DodgeDiesel4x4" I'm just gonna tuff it out and go by milage. Just gotta make sure that anyone else who drives my rig knows to fill up at a certain milage.

Funny, this just happened to me last week, however I didnt have the benefit of a fuel pressure gauage. Got to push the truck back about 100' into a spot. Grabbed our drinks and the wife and I started walking home. About 3 miles. took about 20 min to prime it! Onlt good thing is I showed the wife how to prime it just in case. Mine read between the E and the 1/8 mark. I did notice it quit moving for a day or two, Actually the fuel stop was the next place I was going to. Honestly!!

Mine is going reading 1/4 tank after a 100 miles then sits at 1/4 for 400+ miles. I just picked up a new sending unit from the ocal dealer for $35 and hope to install it as soon as I am getting low on fuel so tank isn't as heavy. I have a hoist though which will make it a breeze.

Make it even more of a breeze and tilt the bed instead of dropping the tank.
Don't have to worry about running out of fuel trying to lighten up the tank that way either.

Well don t feel like the Lone ranger!!!!! Im getting ready to put my second one in.....works good the until 1/2 to 3/4 tank then shows 0 to 1/8 tank. Has done this both times. The anoying thing is it will jump back to right amount on occasion then go back down giving you a anoying ding ding ding low fuel warning every few minutes!!

"quarter tank syndrome" strikes again! I just did a tow in earlier this week with the same prob. As a long time dodge owner I've been properly trained in driving by the trip meter.

I just ran out of fuel a couple of weeks ago because of this probelm. It still read 1/4 tank and light had not come on yet, I thought that I was OK. Ran out of fuel, worried it was the lift pump. I looked at trip, 678 miles on it, I usually fill up before 650 miles. I put some fuel in it and it took a while to get it started, had to bleed all of the lines. It is of 3/4 tank and almost have 400 miles on the tank. Sounds like my sensor is bad also.

What was that part number again?

I read somewhere awhile back you didn't need to buy the whole fuel sensor unit but just part of it... but i cannot find that thread now. anyone know?

Is there any upgrade to the fuel sensor? A factory replacement will just fail again.
