Re:fuel gauge sending unit
Had to put a sending unit in my tank not long ago, I pay wholesale from the dealer and that was about $40 so add 20% and that should be what it cost retail. Now if yours is the same as my 02 when you buy the sender I am thinking the big rubber o-ring that seals the sender to the tank came with it.

I had to go buy one. If I ever find Huey, I have the broken one I can fix for when the new one wears out. After looking at the contacts on the sender, they look pretty worn out. I don't know if the fix would work for very long. It was definitely a 2 man job.

Re:fuel gauge sending unit
Am still wondering about the teflon washer for the fix is what I should of said. Sorry for the confustion.
After I get back from my two weeks at deer camp, I might just try doing some type of fix with out that washer If I'm not able to find a sourse.
How does that add up? Dealer idem only @ $40.00. craped out every 3 years equals $160.00 to fix it in a 10 year span. Do it your self, do it right.

This is true-it does come with the big rubber o-ring, it was 47.00 retail at the most expensive dealer around here, but was quoted 30.00 from an on-line dealer. Even with next day freight at 8.00, it is still cheaper to buy on-line. However, they will match prices if you give them the chance.

Al-
when I get time, I'll look at the one I have and see if I can't find a fix for it. Like I said, the contacts were pretty worn and don't know if it would last long with a fix.

Re:fuel gauge sending unit
Thanks Mike, I know I am going to take mine down when I get back from deer camp. I won't be back till December first though. I think (with out seeing how the contacts are) that you might be able to build up those contacts with a electric soder [s/p] gun to control the heat, and some type of copper wire maybe. There is a couple of fixes listed above on this thread but there is no source listed for all the parts.
I've call around to see if I could find a teflon washer some place with out any luck. I guess I should try a plastic suppier next.
Wonder if the 03's have the same type sender.

Re:fuel gauge sending unit
Mike,
I went through this (like everyone else with a Dodge truck) not too long ago. The sending unit does come with the tank gasket...The tank is not hard to remove (even half full as I did) with a piece of plywood to distribute the weight and a trusty floor-jack...and DO NOT even think about bending the contacts back so the sending unit works for a short time. If you take the time to drop the tank just spend the $42 like I did and replace the sending unit and get another 70K miles out of it!!!

Towin-
When I posted reply #19, I already installed the new one I had bought. You must have mis-read the posts.
Thanks for the reply, but you are 2 weeks late on the advice.

I have a level unit (sending unit) and a sending unit module for sale in the classifieds. They are in great shape and I'll guaruntee they work just fine. The dealer replaced them in error thinking they were bad. Come to find out it was the little green anti-syphon ball. The ball fell into the tank somehow and caused the float to stick. The dealer's loss is your gain.
