Re:fuel gauge sending unit

How do you test to see if it is the sending unit? My gauge quit working, but I assume it is the sending unit. I would like to do some sort of test to make sure it is the sending unit before I pick one up.

Re:fuel gauge sending unit

Try grounding the wire form the sending unit and see if the gauge reads full.

Try www.mopar4less.com

Re:fuel gauge sending unit

Sorry :-[

If you ground it and the gauge moves then the gauge is ok and the sender is toast.

Re:fuel gauge sending unit

Thanks Ed. Where is the best point in the harness to take the wires apart?

Re:fuel gauge sending unit

I just found out 'Mopar 4 less' is not for less.
http://www.dodge-auto-parts-dealer.com/parts.htm
is cheaper.
There are 3 things in the Fuel guage Module kit.
P/N 4897668ae-Module- Pump, FP regulator, level unit. about 340.00
P/N 4897669ab-Level unit only- about 37.06.

Re:fuel gauge sending unit

Mike you should need the "level unit" only. Unplug it at the tank where it plugs in on top.

Re:fuel gauge sending unit

I will need to drop the tank I imagine. Is there any type of gasket I will need to replace? Is the level unit seperate from the rest of the components in the tank?

Re:fuel gauge sending unit

I am going to try that teflon washer fix, but I can't get a hold of Huey Conway. His e-mail address does not work. Does anyone know him?

Still wondering about that teflon washer source myself. I really need to do the fix, have been living with the thing going bonkers way to long.
