Fuel gauge acting irratic

My fuel gauge on my 1998.5 24 valve will stop registering after the truck have been stopped and idling for a short time. Today just sitting at a red light it did it. some times it begins registering right away, other times it won't register until I restart the engine. This has been going on since I bought the truck a year ago. Can anyone help me with this minor problem?

The Lift Pump might be going out. They do pump erratically when they are failing.

See if you can get a mechanic to check pressure to make sure its not your guage.

What kind of guage is it? Does the fuel go all the way to the actual dash guage or does it go to an electrical sender?

Sometimes it could be condensation in the connector, try some canned air like you use for a computer to blow it clean.

Good luck.............Jim
