Front wheel bearings on 1998 3500 2wd
Could anyone tell me the procedure for replacing the front end bearings? The last time I swapped bearings, it was on a '66 Mustang.

You need, GOOD hi-temp grease, pins, seals, towels, seals, I use nitrile or latex gloves, to help control the mess. A CLEAN work surface is critical. Don't want dirt, debris getting into the grease.
Remove wheel, and brake caliper.
Pull pin, throw the grenade, oops sorry wrong instructions.
Pull pin, remove thin metal retaining nut, then big nut.
Remove washer, bearing may or may not fall out at this point.
pull whole rotor off the spindle. Its kinda heavy.
catch outer bearing before it falls out.
On back side of rotor, remove seal and that provides access to inner bearing.
Grease/reuse bearing or get new and grease.
Install bearings. They are 2 different sizes, so they cant get mixed.
Install seal. use large socket(tap with hammer) or similar to drive in seal, after bearing is in place.
Slide on to spindle. Install outer bearing, washer, nut, and spin wheel while tightening. When wheel wont spin freely, back it off a little, where wheel will make a couple of revolutions when you spin it. Install thin retaining nut, and new pins. Install dust caps, Caliper, wheel. If your dust caps are bad or wont seal, you have to get them from dealership.
Hope it helps.
Anyone else feel free to add to it.

I tighten the big nut to seat the bearings, then loosen it completely to finger tight. In other words, the nut is only as tight as you can get it with your fingers. Align the cotter pin hole, back off the nut a half castellation if need be.
Here are the Dexter axle instructions. Some things do not apply but the procedure is the same. I would not re-use an inner seal however, as they allude to. http://dexteraxle.com/i/u/1080235/f/...rings_2-08.pdf
