front break pads did not last
:-[ :'( I have a 2001 2500 with rear disk braeks the truck has 48000 km on it and the front pads are on the indicators already. To me this seems premature. A little over half of these miles are towing a 3 horse angle haul horse trailer, a 4 place snowmobile trailer, and a slide in camper or a combination of any two. None that weigh a lot. BTW I have no exhaust break yet. :'( What kind of mileage are other getting out of there brakes? Is this normal?

Holycack, do you have brakes on the trailers? If not that will put lots of wear on your truck brakes.
I have 66000 on the 3500, which I use to do most of my towing, and still have original front pads ;D
The 2500, which don't tow as much, has 35000, and are showing signs of wear already. :'( I think the little lady likes to stop real hard
Anyhooo driving habits will have a lot to do with how long the pads will last. my $0.0002

Re:front break pads did not last
Fairly soon after I got my truck, I went in to a dealer to ask about the `excessive brake dust`. He said that was normal, and expect to change pads every 60,000 kms(37,000miles). Well, at 286,000 kms(175,000 miles) they were finally down to the squeelers. Why so long? My guess is all miles are highway. 90%, maybe more, are in 6th gear on pavement. Also, when pulling a trailer, I always set them on the strong side, so the trailer does most of the braking. All in all, I'm impressed with the length I'm getting out of them. I too have the rear disks, and they wore out at the same time. I'm now at 504,000kms(309,000 miles), and figure I'll get another 100,000kms out of the second set.

I changed the factory front disc pads at about 49,000 miles and they could have gone a little further. They are not hard to change, so I replaced them with a set of life-time Bendix from AutoZone. I can't remember the specific type, but they seem to make a lot less brake dust than the stock ones and stop a little better too. The rear drums looked fine at that time.

To one and all, the big three only use run-of-the mill brake pad material not the best but not the worst, individual driving habits very greatly from person to person just be happy with what you get or don't on shoe wear. When its time for brake job day do some research on pads, to soft they'll smoke and wear,to hard you wipe out the rotors ,,,,,, food for thought

I should have also added that about 95% of my miles are non-towing interstate with very few stops. When towing,,, I like to keep the trailer brakes grabbing first and doing most of the work unless it's raining,,, then I like to make them a little less aggressive. ;D

Re:front break pads did not last
I am going on a 1300 km trip on sunday so today I ripped off my tires and brakes and lo and behold my brakes hardly have any wear on them compared to the new set I bought from UAP NAPA (BTW they do not make ceramics in Canada yet > > not for the Dodge anyways) What I did find was on both sets the inner pads the liner was seperating from the base. Anyone else seen this? I am thinking this is why my brakes squeal and it should be a warranty issue.

Holycack: Over here brake pads are not warranteed against wear... I know it isn't exactly wear you complain about, but nevertheless I'd just chuck in new pads and give the old ones to the dealer and tell him that you are not content and a bit concerned about the separation of the pad.

AlpineRAM

ps: My pads lasted : Mopar 5500 miles, Cheapo brand 3200 miles, Bendix titanium 20 000 miles.
