Any one using the manuel flip up mirrors from fenderworld.com like the newer trucks have. I think the brand name is Kool-vue. You can also get them with power. My truck does not have power mirrors and I was wondering how you adjusted the mirror.

Lots of guys on the forum have upgraded to the tow mirrors. I got mine from RockAuto and they are manual. The only time I use mine flipped out is when i'm towing the travel trailer(5 or 6 times/year). Typically I will get my wife or son to help adjust the passenger mirror. I did not have power in the doors and did not want to run the wiring, so I stuck with manual.

I had the manual flip up mirrors for a while. Just recently upgraded to the power/heat. I already had the power non-tow style that came on the truck so the power was already there. I bought the manual mirrors to save a buck, and ended up getting used to them. It was a pain for me cause they'd always get bumped or move somehow and Id have to get out, walk around, move the mirror a little, go back around, get in, check the position, and if it wasnt good, do it all over again. I thought about just buying a power mirror for the pass. side, cause the driver was easy to adjust, but ended up just buying the pair. Really happy with them now.
Since you dont have power existing, just get the manual, you'll get used to them, just make sure you buy the mounting bracket...they are a MUST HAVE!

I chose not to get them when I origanally bought the manual mirrors, and I regreted it every time I drove the truck. Flop,wobble, vibrate.

I will probably get the manuel mirrors but If I remember right I believe the plugs are behind the door panel for the power mirrors. I take to Mike at fenderworld and he said if I had to cut the plug off their mirrors it would void the warrenty. Before I ordered I would pull the panels and check for sure.

When you had the manuel did they lock in place when flipped out? One more ? how did you move the glass part to get where you could see. I have heard from others that the glass would break if you tried to move it was so hard to adjust.

I would like to have the power if the plug is there but would have to figure out a plug that would connect to the mirrors and go from there.

Depending on your model truck you may already be pre-wired for the power mirrors. You will only need to get the A/C control panel with the heat button if you want to go all the way stock. IF you have power door locks and windows you have a good chance of having the wiring there for the mirrors.

There is a conversion plug available but the Kool-Vues are wired for the 2nd gen plug so if you have a 98.5-2002 it'll plug right in.

My old manuals are sitting in the garage and wouldn't hold their place after a few miles, I took them apart and repaired them according to directions found by a guy on this site, but figured for 300 bucks the power heated's were the way to go since they were available.

if i got a set of tow mirrors from a 3rd gen will they just bolt on to my 96?

No, the mounting arms are different due to the body style change. You can modify them but you need two sets and a lot of patience. The Kool vue 2nd gens are the way to go. they will fit 94-2001 1500's and 94-2002 2500/3500's.

Also the switch connector changed for the 3rd gen body style, you need the 2nd gen connector, already on the 2nd gen Kool Vues

Part numbers are DG49EL & DG49ER for the coorect power heated flip ups for the 2nd gen body style.

You will also need the backing plates for the flip outs: A dealer or junk yard item.

If I have the plug behind the panel would I have to cut the plug from the cool vue and stright wire it. I have got to get these fixed the wife said she wasn't going to roll down the window every 30 min's and fix the mirrors while towing. The ones I have now won't hole there place I don't want anymore of that.

Canuckville, nice pic's I will pull my door panels in the next few days to make sure I have the plugs. I will also have to come up with a switch and harness since I don't have power mirrors now. I suppose a 1500, 2500 and 3500 are the same on a 95-98 correct me if I am wrong. I have power windows and locks.
