so 20-22mpg with an empty 01 HO 2500 4wd at 70-75 with 3.54's would be exceptional? ....my current truck handles the loads fine, and will get 22mpg @ 75mph all day long empty....
YES. The new trucks have a more aerodynamic shape, but are also taller, plus emission standards are different. Net result is that I don't believe ANYBODY gets 22 @75 with a newer truck (1998.5 up), "all day long". Maybe on an exceptional tank, downhill or going downwind, but not consistently...

Re:Disappointing Mileage

My 2001.5 QC 4x4, auto w/3.54's EZ and Power Service on stock 265/75's, got 24mpg the last time I was on the hwy in Colorado @ 5000ft going 75mph. I don't know if it will do this "all the time," but I'm sure it would get pretty close to that. I'm sure it would at the speed limit of other states at 65 or 70 mph.

Re:Disappointing Mileage

Something else you should consider is your fuel source. I have tried just about all of the truck stops in my area and found 1 mpg difference between brands.

Re:Disappointing Mileage

I just went to College Station and back running 80+mph and got 310 miles out of 5/8 a tank. That's also with some "spirited" trips up to a 100+. ;D I'm going to fill it up and let yall know what it comes out to.

Re:Disappointing Mileage

i get 17 mpg driving back and forth to work 90 miles a day, i got 8.5 mpgs towing my 36' trailer with my land cruiser on it. i also had the cab over camper on the truck. the land cruiser was back about 20' on the trailer. i was running 70 to 75 most of the way to brady. i slowed down to 65 on the way home and got 13.5 mpg. i was breakin the wind twice with that load and i could tell it towing. it was grossed out in the 22k or better range. and the trailer deck is over the tires and my cruiser is on 44" rubber. so the wind drag is pretty serious with it. your #s sound in the hunt. mike

The AC was on, windows up, tailgate on, comp on 2x2 (no pump wire). That was also mixed with some very heavy city traffic and a lot of stop and go driving. I went 327 miles on 20 gallons.

Re:Disappointing Mileage

Average about 400 miles to a tank. Comes out to around 16-17 mpg. This is a combination of mostly stop and go with some hwy miles [undecided]. Thought it would be better. Have about 50,000 miles on the CTD.
