Disappointing Mileage

Gentlemen,
Rerturned from a trip and checked my mileage. 468 miles on 26.34 gallons of diesel calculates to 17.7 MPG. :'( 400 of those miles were all highway at 75 to 80mph with no load. Is this about what everyone else is getting? ??? I'm not BOMB'ed at all. I guess that I expected a little bit better. : Please let me know. Thanks.
Re:Disappointing Mileage

That's better than I get. This winter I was averaging 13mpg. Last summer the best I ever got was around 16.

I think something is wrong.

Re:Disappointing Mileage

I agree with Gary,
I have a 2wd and run 50 miles a day, roundtrip, back and forth to work. All of this is at 55 and mostly 65mph (The State Troopers love to watch this stretch of highway and my driving record is just starting to look better,,, Don't ask what it DID look like a few years ago!). : Anyway,,,,,, I average about 20-21mpg at these speeds. On occasions when I have been able to run 75mph speeds, my mileage dropped down around 18mpg.
Since I don't need the tickets and I get better mileage running the legal speeds for Virginia,,,,,,,,, I'm happy!
Just my $.02

Re:Disappointing Mileage

I agree, speed makes a big difference. Keeping it under 70 I ave 20-21mpg on the highway. If I run more than that I lose between 1-2mpg. Also, I get better mileage now with the mods than I did with the stock setup. ;D

Re:Disappointing Mileage

Sounds good to me. What other truck would get near that at 75-80mph?? 454 Chevy 6-7mpg!!!! Try driving 65 mph you should get close to 20. My dually gets 18-19 at steady 65 mph.

My old '99 5sp. 3500 got 16.5 average during the winter, and 17.5 during the summer. highway trips at 72 got 17.3, while 65mph got 18.5 (summer fuel).

Re:Disappointing Mileage

Just filled mine up yesterday and checked the mileage for grins and giggles, not that I really care. Came out to just a little over 19. That was stop and go to work and other places with a little interstate.

Re:Disappointing Mileage

I get right at 15, driving about 30 minutes at 55-65 one way with little stopping in between here & school. I've been meaning to get to replacing the IAT and probably wouldn't hurt to get a new lift pump either...my #'s are border line.

Re:Disappointing Mileage

I agree with Gary, above, and would like to add to his post just a bit.

These trucks are not aerodynamic. Higher speeds take more fuel. I see in your signature that it is a 2002. I bet it will improve a bit after you get some miles on it, even at those speeds.

Re:Disappointing Mileage

I hate all you guys getting the great mileage!! > unfortunately, I sit in DC bumper to bumper traffic everyday and I'm only getting about 13 to 14 right now with the winter blend of fuel. I get about 15 to 16 with the summer blend. as for keeping it below 75 on the highway, I just can't do it!! ;D This pig wants to run......
