Did i make a good purchase

Well today I broke down and finally bought a cummins. It is as follows....

2002 Dodge 3/4 ton quad cab
4x4
6-speed
62,000 miles

It already had a very slight lift, buckshot tires, rancho shocks and stabilizer.

The paint is in great shape. The truck is really sharp.

I paid $21,000 before TT&L.

Is this a good deal? BTW, i cycled the key on and off 3 times and just got blank dashes, so no codes. Please tell me what problems follow these trucks and what i need to do. Thanks and i am very happy to be here.

Well I did'nt even ask about the previous owner. I bought it from a dealer so you know they would have just said it was a little ole lady that only drove it to church. LOL. With the lift, heavy gauge speaker wire, and mud tires, I assume it was a young male and i don't really want to know....... Watch should I look for on these trucks? Any trouble areas??? Thanks for your repy...

Congratulations on your truck purchase. Make sure you fill out your signature so everyone knows what you have.

You shouldn't worry about what problems these trucks have, you'll expirience them as they happen. Then you can use the search function to see what to do.

As things begin to fail, there are a lot of aftermarket parts available to make your truck even better.

Make sure you get some guages...... pyro, fuel pressure, and boost. Doesn't matter which brand, just get something.

Enjoy your truck, ..........I love mine...... all three

.......Jim

Do a search for Vp44 and you'll have lots of reading to prepare urself for that issue on the 24v engines....Fuel pressure is a must to monitor with that pump, or else it dies, lol. But you'll love the cummins regardless.

Thanks guys. I talked to a buddy of mine today at work and he really pressed the fact that I need to get a fuel pressure gauge ASAP. Any particular unit I should purchase?

just get an edge juice with the attitude monitor. then youll have an extra 125 horsies and all the guage capabilities you could ever want!

As far as the gauges are concerned on the edge, does that mean you can get a readout for the fuel pressure?

Yes the edge displays the fuel psi, and if you don't want to display the psi it has a built in warning that goes off if the pressure goes below the # you set it at. Plus it has almost anything else that you would want to display.

Along with fuel psi, what other gauges are built in??

you can go check their site but just off the top of my head:

fuel psi
fuel temp
turbo boost
egt
backdown
throttle percentage
coolant temp
trans temp
oil temp
oil pressure
air intake temp
rpm
corrected mph

i may have missed a few. you can display them 4 at a time.

also has warnings for speed, rpm, fuel, and boost as well as a built in turbo timer. the setup comes with all sensors youll need

I think you basically get many parameters that can be read off of the diagnostics bus. But keep in mind that the FP sensor will be electric, and may just jump to zero, scaring you. A mechanical pressure gauge will not do that.

That sounds like a good truck for that money. That's what I paid for mine a year ago w/53K miles and bone stock. I just replied to your ? on 24v engine/drivetrain section. Mine crapped out like that the second week I had it. It turned out to be a dirty fuel filter that cost me a day's work. $12 from Geno's garage. I keep a spare behind the seat for emergencies, it only takes one bad tank to foul one up! Kurt
