Debadging older blue 2nd gen

My truck is a 2001, has 140k miles on it and has spent alot of time outside, apparrent by the fading paint on the hood. I really like the debadge look and wondered if doing this would leave the "ghost" of the darker paint that never saw the sun. I have the dark navyish blue color. Also, what about the decals on the tailgate - DODGE and 4x4, same question there.

Thanks!

So nobody has done this on a 2001 or older truck?

i wanted to do the same to my red 99. when i peeled the old dealership sticker of the tailgate two years ago the paint has faded somewhat. my brother did his white 98 and i wasnt faded any but his truck was always garaged before he bought it. im going to have my truck repainted this winter so im going to weight to then to try the debaged look.

Thanks for the input,

I've read that even if it leaves a ghost, the paint will cure again in 30-60 days and those spots will go away. I'm more worried about the tailgate vinyl stickers and how ridiculous it could possibly look.

By the way, here's my truck a year ago. After thinking about the tailgate issue, I guess I could just remove it from the truck if the ghosting is bad and leave it in the yard face up until it cures out.

I took the strickers and emblems off mine when it was only a couple of years old, couldn't tell where they were but yours being on so long may be different. I used fishin' line to take off the emblems then some type of cleaner, can't remember now what kind.............Brad

Well, I'm gonna give it a shot tonight. If it looks like crap I can always order some new decals I guess. Can you still get the vinyl tailgate stickers?

I just did mine a month ago my truck is two tone green and silver stands out like a sore thumb the silver paint was so faded I ended up putting newer model emblems over the spot to try and hide it. The darker blue of your truck might not be as bad.

My buddy I just talked to said that it will probably be really bad and the fading will not ever catch back up. So I think I'm gonna ditch the idea.

What this really is, is that I am sitting here at work tracking my new intake on the ups website and it's not gonna be here til tomorrow. It's killing me to not go do SOMETHING to my truck today...

I have the same color truck as yours that I just bought in the beginning of July. The first thing I did was take the stickers off the back and you can deffinitly see where they were. My truck only has 35000 on it but it does have a lot of sun spots from someone not drying it after it got washed.

I also took off the SLT emblems this week and you can't even tell they were there. I was going to take the 2500 emblems off but I didn't get to it yet.

Mike, what about a picture? I'd like to see just how bad these ghosts actually are. Thanks

I don't think I'll be able to capture it in a picture because its more of an angle in the right light thing. If I look at it directly I don't see anything but at an angle its noticable to me. I am a little picky about things so I see it but no one else takes notice of it.

I will try to get a picture of it tomorrow if it comes up.

I took mine off and slight noticable fading, but who cares if you like it do it. I put 3rd gen cummins "C"s on mine and it offsets any fading.
