I think the first thing i have to do is check for voltage going to the FLSU and coming back from the FLSU. Any one know what color wires going to the FLSU should have the MA reading and the voltage reading?

this may help, while pushing tho odometer reset button turn the key on and hold untill you see the word "chek", release the odometer button and watch the guages, they will do a test

Well that was cool to watch, the gas gauge did its routine during the test so I'm assuming I can rule out the gauge from being bad with that test? I found a 12volt source on one of the 4 wires going to the fuel level sending unit in the tank, later today I will look for a signal from the FLSU, I'm doing my best to avoid having to pull the gas tank out to test the FLSU because there is $50 worth of diesel in the tank.

I wouldn't be surprised if your fuel level sender in the tank took a dump. It is a very common occurence on the 2nd Gen trucks.

Mine worked flawless since day one and on time after filling it, I started the truck, fuel guage went to full and then dropped back to empty, sender is dead. Been this way about 6 months now.

I'm going to try to find a cheep FLSU at the junk yards, any one here know if the gas powered 2001 1500 rams have the same sending unit? There's not to many diesels around here to get parts off of.

The fuel level sender is only about $15-30 depending on your dealer. You only have to replace the sender and not the whole module. I have replaced 2 of them myself.

mine too

My fuel gage is doing the same thing, so all I need is the sending unit? Do I still have to drop the tank? Is this unit in the tank or some where else??

Sending unit only is more like $50 US.
Gasser senders are different, won't work.
Much easier to tip the bed than drop the tank. Just remove the four bolts on the driver's side, loosen the four on the other side. Disconnect the fill and vent hoses. Two people or jack, hoist, etc can easily lift the bed the 18" it takes to gain clearance. Block it up with a 2x4.
