Cruise control fix needed

Got the truck back from dealer with new VP and in-tank pump and ECU or ECM or sumpin. Now my cruise control doesn't work. The "cruise" indicator at the odomoeter stays lit the whole time the ign is on, but the buttons on the steering wheel have no effect. The light stays on and no set speed available

I poked around and can't find anything disconnected or the like. It would appear the cruise is all electronic?

Any ideas to try?

the cruise is ran by your vacum pump, almost directly under the vp44. there is a little black tube that connects to to the vacum pump then runs in the cab, check this as it slips on and off very easily. hope this helps dieselfan

Could be wrong but wasn't '01 the year the vacuum controlled cruise was replaced by all electronic?

I poked around...saw one vac line runnig to firewall..into a vac tree. Only port I saw used was leading into firewall near heater hoses (heater conrol I imagine).

I took the cover off the throttle assy' and saw nothing attached that would operate throttle. Is it all covered by the aluminum mount? I never found anything resembling a servo.

My understanding is even if no vac I could still turn the indicator on/off.

Per Dodge...the 6 sppeds have an electronic cruise controlled by the ECM.

Automagics have vac controlled cruise running off speed sensor on trans.

They are ordering (another) new ECM.

Follow up

The new ECM installed was faulty. Another new ECM took care of the problem.

An interesting note is the 6 speed uses the ECM for cruise control (no speed sensor), is full electronic with no servo. The automagic trans (with speed sensor) uses a vacuum servo. This pertains to my model year anyway.

For what it's worth, my '01 6 speed has a vacuum servo.

Many times a Smarty can be used to bring back bad ECMs to a useful state. Whether it can fix a cruise control problem is another question.
