I need to get some new rear spring hangers for my 02 2500, and I am not sure if it has 2.5" or 3" wide springs.

they say the smaller is for the trucks with 8800 or less GVW, and the bigger are for 8800 or more.

my truck is an 02 2500 with a 6spd and dana 80.

*I am trying to order them today from work, and my truck is at home or I would just go measure them*

All you have to do is look at the GVWR on the sticker inside the door jamb. I'm guessing it's an 8800 only because you have the Dana 80, but I may be wrong.

thats the point...my truck is at home 60 miles from here, i was looking for a quick answer so i could order the hangers today.

Do you have aux springs and rear sway bar? That is a quick way to tell if it 8800 GVW. If you do then you have the 3" springs.

3/4 and 1 tons all have 3" springs

My truck say 8800 on the door sticker has the tow and camper package. Camper package is the helper springs and rear sway bar, and I have the 3" springs. The helper springs are also 3"

no- all 1 tons have 3 inchers, but not all 3/4 tonners have the 3 inchers- the 8800's have the 3's the smaller GWR (7500?) has 2-3/4.

The only clue I can guess is the 80 rear which would say higher GVWR to me...

i was so busy last night i forgot to measure them while at home.

and i have the 80 because its a manual not for a higher rating, but im pretty sure my door sticker said 8800 the last time i checked it for something.

I will double check spring size just to be sure and post back.

My assumption is that all diesels will be 8800-hence 3" springs, and the gasser 3/4 tons will have smaller springs.

I only have the 70, but still rated at 8800.

Not all diesels are 8800 - Only those with the 'camper special' package. Manual 2500 have the D80 independent of GVW. Autos have the D70. Both then can have the Aux spring and rear sway bar hence making them 8800 GVW. There are four different configurations for a 2500. The 3500 are 8800 GVW with the D80 regardless of transmission.

mine has no camper package, no overloads, no sway bar, and yet its an 8800 with 3" springs.

i dont see how a diesel can NOT be 8800

Maybe it's V-10 and Cummins for the 8800 GVW???

On the earlier trucks most diesels were not 8800's, only the HD options added made them 8800's. Mine has the camper package, the tow package, D70/Auto, plow prep, and is an 8800 with 3 inchers, camper booster pack and sway bar.
I would have guessed they would have used the D70's in the lower GVW trucks as well as the autos, since when you really think about it there is no benifit to the D70 in the auto truck when the truck is still rated to 8800.

rolincoal- unless they changed something for 02, you're is not an 8800- the 3 inch springs alone were not enough for the 8800 rating- the boosters are needed. I'm guessing either yours were removed before you received the truck or the factory goofed with the rating. I Hope I'm wrong- but I'm pretty sure the 3 inch springs are not capable of 8800 alone.

the truck has no options, its base model ST, no sway bar on the rear and no overload springs. its an 8800GVW.

I believe the sway bar and extra spring (camper special package) make it an 8800, vice the 7500. Unless you have the package you have the regular setup which is the 7500# GVWR. Your glove box also has the info on what is on your truck....
