Comparable Mileage

Alright ive searched cause i hate making the same thread more than once. Checked ramdiesel.com and tdr and cant find any comparison between 24 and 12 mileage. Which gets the better mileage? And why im at it for those of you that have power boxes, Do you enjoy the adjustable power of the boxes apposed to the mechanical changes of the 12vs? Thanks for the opinions If ya could just post your mileagle for whatever king of engine you have. Thanks
Nate

Re:Comparable Mileage

I love the adjustability of the power on my 24 valve. Very handy. I get about 15 in the city and 20 or so on the highway running 70.

Re:Comparable Mileage

My truck's stock, I get about 16-16.5 city, up to 21 or so on the highway depending on how fast I'm going, etc.

Edited to include 3.54 rear end.

Re:Comparable Mileage

I'm still stock. Empty, I get 15 in the city and 17 on the highway with my 24 valve. I'm installing RV 275 injectors this week, so I'll see if they help any. I've heard 1 to 3 mpg.

Re:Comparable Mileage

Makes a BIG difference if you have stick or automatic, mileage wise. When you look at those who are giving mileag you don't have to look at the sig. to see who has what. The other BIG difference is gears 355 or 410.

Just some things to think about if you're considering mileage for buying another truck.

Re:Comparable Mileage

4.10 gears here.
Mileage is up 2.4mpg over stock.
I could NOT be without the in-cab adjustability.

Re:Comparable Mileage

I always thought the stock 12 valves got better mileage compared to the stock 24 valves. But the 12 valves didn't make as much HP either.

If you go by the tranny type and gears I should get the worst mileage.

Auto + 4:10's = 18+ mpg in my delivery truck in mixed city driving.

Re:Comparable Mileage

I think the 12 valves get better mileage on average

I'm only making about 350 hp I average 20 empty got 16 pulling a 6000lb trailer

one guy I met in ft quapelle on may long (mark.....can't rember his last name.....goes by mdkram I believe) is making 400+ hp with his 12 valve and got 24mpg coming down to the show

my friends stock 94 got 26 mpg empty, my grandpa's 93 2wd got 29 regularly and 21 pulling his 26 ft trailer (about 6000 lbs)

Re:Comparable Mileage

Yeah i know how the drivetrain goes. Im going to look for somethign with the 4.1s in them so i can run bigger tires and keep around the same mileage as the smallers with the lower gears. As far as Tranny goes im up for both. Both my trucks are autos and i actually kind of enjoy not having to shift ( and im only 19 haha it gets kinda tidious) but i also have a lil Tiburon that i dont mind driving and thats standard. Before i get slammed, i know they shift nothing alike, my old work truck was a manual but it was a 92, im just stating that i could live with the shifting. It just sucks in traffic trying to run a cell phone and drive and possible something else at the same time, So if i go with the Auto ill pry replace it if its worn with some aftermarket thing. Then put on a Gear Venders to lower the RPM for highway to keep up the mileage, the GV wont even payf or itself before I sell the truck, its just gonna be there to help in the braggin rights for mileage

Keep them commin! its helpin a lot. and state your options ( gears and auto) if not in your sig THANKS

Re:Comparable Mileage

Mine has been a pretty consistent 17.5mpg while commuting (30 miles mostly 50 mph country roads) . The mods haven't hurt or helped and I can't help but put my foot in it sometimes. I get around 20mpg while running 75mph on a strictly highway trip. I finally did a decent trip pulling a 16'x8' enclosed trailer at about 4500 lbs on Sunday but I haven't had to fuel up yet. BTW it was soooo sweet easily pulling away from my buddies 2003 Hemi Ram 2500 which was pulling a similar trailer!!!

Re:Comparable Mileage

I get 18 mostly country roads to work. 21-22 on highway. Neighbor has an auto with 4:10's and I think he said he was gettin about 16. It all depends on how much resistence there is in the drivetrain to put the power to the ground or in other words how much the engine has to work to put power to the ground.

Re:Comparable Mileage

Every thing I have seen is that 12V gets 10 to 20% better MPG.

My 97 12V I get 18 to 20 in the city, 22 to 24 on the highway and 12 to 15 towing my rig below. Auto with 3.55 gears and 245x75x16 tires (stock, stock and stock). 8)

Re:Comparable Mileage

4:10 gears, 4x2, dually, stage 1 injectors and an EZ: 16 around town, 21 on the highway. Pretty happy with that!
