My 2001.5 has developed a clicking sound from under the drivers side dash, and I cannot seem to locate the source. It almost sounds like a solenoid clicking, but I do not notice anything weird electronically. It only seems to click when the truck is moving. At a stop doesn't seem to make the noise. It does not seem like a huge problem, but it is bothering me a bit. I did not know if anyone else experienced this, or knew the source of the sound. Any help would be appreciated.

yea my truck has developed the same noise but its only there when I apply throttle. I asked this same question about 3 days ago on the 24valve forum but nobody has had any suggestions yet.

I get the same noise, sounds like a solenoid clicking away. It seems the warmer the weather the more pronounced it is, and seems to click more often when road is a little rougher. Mine sounds like it is the drivers side upper left corner.

COULD BE A BOMB!!QUICK GET OUT!!!! JK i think mine does the same thing and I discovered it to be the whole dash rubbing and sounding what i thought to be a clicking sound just dash rattle Im guessing and it only does it when Im driving just turn the radio up it'll go away

Is your brake pedal or your park brake pedal drooping? If either of the sws are engaging temporarily it would be activating relays then deactivating them.

I had this when it was really cold. Now that it has warmed up a little, it went away. It sounded like a metal bracket or something had come apart and was bouncing on something else that was metal. This too only did it as I was driving and it was worse on rough roads. Sure would like to know what it was.

Thank you for all your responses. The clicking is there no matter if I am on the excellerator or not. It does seem to increase with warmer temperatures. I also thought about the brake drooping, and have held my foot under it and pulled up and it still does it. It does not seem to increase with speed. The only time it does not do it is if I am at a complete stop. I also thought about the seat belt, but I don't know how to check that. Again, thanks for the ideas.

It's most likely the shifter linkage. The joints and busings work into a condition that causes a bit of slop. This is almost always the source of the noise.

From there, check the steering shaft for movement. Another common source of noise.

Thanks for the reply. I am trying the shifter linkage prognosis. What I have noticed is that if I push up on the shifter, the sound definitely decreases in volume and occurance (to what I can tell). How can I adjust some of the slack in the shifter linkage and/or where can I check? Thanks again for direction.

Got the same noise, Don't think its a wheel bearing (I know what that sounds like) I think it may be a u-joint.

I had this problem for 6 months except my noise was coming from the passenger side. It drove me nut the whole time, i tried everything to figure out what was making noise. This past december I changed my balljoints, hubs and tierods, and now the noise is gone. I'm thinking one of my balljoints was knocking at higher speeds and echoing through into the cab.

Again, thanks for all the advice and direction. I think I have found the clicking and/or vibration noise. I think it is coming from the lower part of the steering column where the column meets the firewall. I would imagine that there is a bushing there somewhere that must be worn. The only way I found it was having my wife drive while I felt around under the dash for the vibration. When I grabbed on to the lower column, I could feel pulses in accordance with the noise. Is this a normal wear item, is there a bushing there, how hard is it to change?

there was a TSB for clicking noise under dash when I got my truck new in 2001. It was bescause of a welded seam creaking. I printed out the TSB but never had it done. That was because it involved drilling the firewall and sticking a chisel through it and hammering the weld apart.......I thought the cure was worse than the disease.
