Check Engine/ loss of power

I started getting a Check Engine light every now and then. But with that i get a loss of power and the Tachometer drops to Zero. I will regain power when the Tachometer starts working again but the Check Engine light stays on. Then I go back out to Dive and everything is fine. Any ideas?
