chance to buy a 98 quad
I currently own a 99 4x4 quad short bed, auto, 49k miles, every option except leather, leveling kit, EZ, K-N filter, exaust, and the 53 block.
The transmission is starting to shudder, but otherwise the truck is in excellent condition.
I have a chance to purchase a 98 12v 4x4 quad longbed 5 speed 90k miles, stock, fairly loaded, and in fair to good condition for $18,000.
I am concerned with the transmission, 53 block, and lift and injection pump issues with my current truck. I use the truck for light towing and around town driving.
I was wondering how much it would cost to get the 98 up to the power my current truck has and if anyone has an opinion on if this is a good move or not.

second try....
it is fairly easy to make power with the 12v.
$1000 covers most stuff....
18 seems alittle high......but then again I wouldn t sell mine for that. I love it.
Check the trans (5th gear falls off) something you might need to take care of in the future, check for a KDP repair or be prepaired to do that too....

For what its worth I have heard the 98s were the best of the 12Vs. As mentioned above I would check to see if the KDP was taken care of and check it for the #53 block. Don’t know if they used the #53 in the 98 12V.
For power in the 12V I’ve heard Piers Diesel Research is the one to talk to. http://www.piersdiesel.com/index.htm I f you want injectors I would look at a set of EDMs http://www.f1diesel.com/injectors12.html here is where to get them. The reason the 98 12v is so sought after is because its the only year you could get the 4door truck with the 12v engine. I would really like to have one. They are really getting pricy.

Ive been looking for this combination for about 8 months so I went and checked to make sure.
I drove the truck, but I couldn't check it out very well because it was nightime.
My only concerns are the price and the rpms on the freeway about 2500 at 70 mph(410's) alot higher than my truck.

If you want this truck for hauling the 4.10s would help. The price sounds a little high though. I bought mine a couple of months ago for 20000, and it had around 87000 on it. Try to get the price down, I think that the blue book for this is around 13-14000, and this is probably on the high side. Good luck.

sounds like its a SRW, tires are probably questionable right? Tell the seller that since it needs new tires (hopefully) that you ll go 17, 17 200 something like that......then you can get some taller tire to cut down on the gear ration a bit, instead of regearing.
My truck was 15k with 155k miles, the miles never bothered me. It was by far the cleanest truck I looked at. I was looking for only DRW quad cab 4x4 98 12v.....and it came in my fav coler ......red.........even a red spay in liner, b&w turn over ball too.
mine is loaded, tan leather etc.....
The things I did are in my sig. I found out when I pinned the KDP that it had already been out....probably tabbed......but I pinned it anyways. I also had 5 th gear fall off shortly, and payed 500 to fix it good. I ve got a south bend clutch waiting to go in....but the truck is perfect for me. It drives similar to a 5.0 fox body mustang at 7620 lbs.
IMO and some others its the best dodge truck ever made.

Hey Guys,
New to the forums, but have been reading them for awhile. I'm in the same boat. I have the chance to buy about the same truck... 1998 2500 12v 5spd quad door, long bed, Sport with everything but leather and with the 4.10 gears. It has 137k and just had a new clutch put in about 20k ago. Price is around 16,500 or in the neighborhood. Was curious as to what you decided about that truck..
Thanks

Welcome to DTR! I think that is a fairly good price, just check the things mentioned above. My brother bought a 98 quad long box 5 speed with about that mileage for 16000 this summer, he is very happy with his purchase. It has some mods though. Good luck

Yea it seems like a nice truck... Still waiting to get some of the paperwork back on it to see what the mechanical work has been done to it recently. We have a 2 other dodges already. A 1994 1-ton Dually 12v 5pd 4wd regular cab and a 91 3/4 ton 4wd extended cab long box 12v auto. Just figured it was about time to add one more to the family. I'll keep ya posted and put some pics of them up in the gallery.
