Center Console Stuck

Has anyone had their center console get stuck closed? I can push the latch in, but nothing happens.

I assume you're talking about the overhead console? If so, yeah, they can sometimes be real hard to get out. My last truck's was real easy, but my new one is hard. I think I used the back of a hammer to yank that $(!&er out.

It is the center console on the seat that doubles as the arm rest. Some days it will open and most it won't.

As I recall there is some sort of balancer in the latch mechanism so that it won't open when in the lifted position. When I had this problem I just lubed it up and had no problems with it afterwards.

He's Right there is a counter balnce weight in there to keep the lid from popping open while its in the upright position.

BTW how did you lube it up? Is there a way to open up the latch assembly to clean and lube?

Don't remember how I did it as this was some years ago. I just remember I got so frustrated with it that I spent the day and tore it apart to see what the deal was and managed to lube it and get things put back together.

I tried lubing it from the outside and determined that it is not the vertical/horizontal switch causing the problem. In the horizontal position I can depress the button with no result. In the vertical position I can not press the button because of the position latch.

Did you spill a soda?
I did, I needed to pretty much douse the thing in Stoners invisiglass. I used glass cleaner because it evaporated fast and didn't seem to melt plastic. After I got it loose large amounts of spray silicone lube seemed to do the trick. I do have to slap it sometimes when it sticks though. I should take the whole thing apart and flush it, but I'm to lazy

Once you get it open the post on the lower part of the latch can be adjusted up or down by turning with pliers to control how tight the the lid closes.
