So i've had my 2nd gen for about two years now. I was interested in driving the 3rd gen on the fourth so i stoped my my local dealer to check em out.
I went along with their whole thing about trading in my truck and down payments and all that good stuff. I own a canadian made ram 3500. I'm talkin it so canadian that the spedo in METRIC!

Anyways i filled out all the proper paperwork to have the truck traded in as the down payment. I't probably worth about $8,000.

I figured this would be pretty sufficiant. The dealer then comes back from talkin with the banker and tells me he can only give me $1,000 for the truck! I just about edited by admin

I asked him why and he explaned that because it was a canadian truck they were unable to verify anything. Milage, vehical history, nothing.

So needless to say if i want to sell thid truck i cant go to a dealer, i must sell it privitly and go to the dealer with the cash earned from that.

Just thought i'de let all know of my headaches to prevent others from the same.

 

That's the smart thing to do anyway. I've never seen a trade where the buyer didn't get shafted. They'll play smoke and mirrors with ya until you don't know what your paying.
Never let them start asking what kind of payments you are looking for. hammer out the final cost first, get it in writing then work on payment amounts.
I have yet to pay more than $300.00 over invoice.
It's usually $100.00

Maybe try another dealer just to see if thats true or if they were just pulling your chain and trying to put one over on you....

 

I have found that dealers in Canada can not confirm mileage, or if the vehicle has been in an accident. When the vehicle comes from another province. I wonder if it is the same for vehicles coming from one state to the next.

 

Not a canada truck but my bank just valued mine @ $10,500 to use as collateral. I was quite surprised when they came back that high.

 

So a dealer in Canada cannot confirm a Canadian trucks true mileage?

I'm laying down the BS alert on this one, find yourself a dealer who wants your business.

 

It isn't clear what country the dealer in question is in from his post but yes, I agree, if it was a CDN dealer saying they can't verify the history of a CDN truck, that sounds like they don't want the business that bad!

 

I don't get that.. They only give you Blue book value for the vehicle anyway as they are going to turn around and sell it for $5K more than they give it to you for..

When I bought mine, the Dodge dealer could or would not confirm if it had been in an accident or millage because it had been registered in an other province other than the one I live and bought the truck in.

 

Clayton, its basically the same here in the states, Carfax is only so good, and I can assure you I have seen cut up welded together hunks that had a clean Carfax, but that should not deter a legitimate dealer from inspecting your trade in and treating you like a valued customer.

And no, my dealer would not confirm anything that Carfax did not back up, but then no intelligent human being would vouch for something they had no personal knowledge of.

Not trying to rile people, but man, it sure seems like the dealer was trying to hose the poor guy.

 

So I have to voluntarily fill out my registration card for current mileage? What a joke.. My 89 ran for 12,000 Km without a speedo, but I had that logged in my own service records as I had an oil change in the middle of that. FWIW, if you can swing it, sell it private I guess.

 

Consignment dealers are the way to go as far as selling. They take all the hassle out of the deal and most even offer financing. As far as buying it all depends on how hungry the dealership is. If times are slow they will usually deal, if times are good well you get the picture. Everyone deserves to make an honest buck.

My truck is Canadian too. I didn't know until my cluster went out and the dealer said they could only replace it with a Kilometers per hour unit. So now I have to figure the distance my truck has traveled by taking the mileage that was on it when the cluster was changed (~92,000), subtracting that number from the current reading (~236,000) and then converting that number to miles. I usually just say, "Yeah, I'm rolling up on a quarter of a million miles".

It is great when passengers think we are driving 130 Miles Per Hour though.
