Ok, I think I found the problem. The clutch/pully is shot. I took the belt off and it is loose and turns tuff with a grinding sound. I can get a reman compresssor for $255. I am going to install it myself, and have the AC shop in town evac and charge the system. My question is: What else should I replace? Maybe the accumulator/drier?
What special instructions do I need to change out the compressor and other parts? What about oil for the compressor?
It is still really hot.

I changed a compressor clutch on a Dodge Caravan once. I bought the clutch as a separate part and never had to disconnect the compressor from the system so I avoided recharging and the expense of a complete compressor. If your compressor is ok I would see if you can find a new clutch.

I would change the clutch if you know the compressor is good. A clutch is probably 1/2 the price of a compressor w/clutch, plus you save the money to have it pulled down and charged.
If you are going to change the compressor, change the drier/accumulator, and the orifice tube.

Its only $100 more for a compressor w/new pulley and clutch vs just buying the clutch and pulley. plus with 240,000 miles on this one, I don't want to have to be doing this again for a long time. I guess it is just peace of mind for me. I know I will have to spend another $100 getting it evac and recharged, but Good Cold AC is important to me since I spend a lot of time in the truck. I will also change the orifice tube and accumulator at the same time. Thanks for the input.
