A/C liquid line / orifice question.

Can someone tell me if the A/C liquid line for a 2001 has been changed or updated? I got a new one at the dealer and there were no larger areas where the orifice visibly goes and no insulated areas with the reflective tape wrapped around them. I can't find any Chrysler marking on the line either, just a part tag on it with the number and "Parker" on it who I am assuming is the manufacturer. I just want to make sure I am getting the best part possible so I do not have to do this all over again a year later. I was wondering if the dealer got an aftermarket part for me perhaps? Thanks!

It should be embedded in the liquid line, between a couple of crimps in the metal tube.

I order to change the oriface you have to replace the entire line...(2nd Gen)

Yes I know, I was simply asking why the factory lines has the thick sticky insulators wrapped in reflective metal tape and the new line does not? What are these there for, they must serve some purpose to go to all that trouble? There are 3 of them, 1 is right where the orifice is.

Bringing this back from the dead.
You see the search function works.
So the orifice isn't replaceable? You gotta replace the entire liquid line?

yep..but the high pressure fill valve is replaceable without changing the entire line..
I would suspect the insulate help with the cooling system performance..

I Thought the oriface tube was replaceable.
I thought it went in the hard tube of one end of the condensor. can t remember which one. I bought just an o tube for my 97.

Im still haveing AC trouble.
Still learning.

According to the FSM and what has been said on here the consensus is the Liquid line has to be replaced. Not too bad. I got a new one off Autozone for $38.

The orifice is replaceable. However it is easier to replace the line.

The replacement orifice is an aftermarket item where you cut the line next to the crimps and install the compression fittings with a BIG filter and orifice. It is great on systems that have alot of trash in them because of the big filter. The filter and orifice is cleanable and replaceable. I have used them many times and they work great in applications where the lines are expensive.

I'm not trying to hijack, but I was having issues with my A/C before I deployed. I bought a new orifice tube for my truck, but when I popped the line apart where it looked like it went, there wasn't anything in it. Sorry, I'm in Afghanistan, so I have no pics. I do remember that where the liquid line exits the condenser, there are crimps that look like they would support the orifice tube. Like I said though, there wasn't anything in it when I took it apart at the joint. What gives? My A/C was awesome before it lost its charge, so I have no idea what's going on. I looked at the shematics in the parts department at the dealership, but they were no help.

I believe that up to 97 the orifice was just outside the condenser, in a location bordered by a fitting you could remove to get to the OT. When they changed things in 98 the OT went into a hard line in the inside of the right fender, and is no longer accessible, which is why you have to buy the entire line.
