broken shackle
#16
bumping an old thread.maybe i can get some more info, from guy's that did this themselve's
the right side shackle broke on my truck.it pretty much rotted out and i'm worried about getting the bolt's out of the bushing's,should i cut it all off with torch's?
i would also like to get a better set then the factory one's.the frame and bracket's they bolt to aren't rusted like the shackle's.they must have been a bad stamping.any aftermarket brand's readily available? i'd like to get it up and running, because it's my daily driver.
any help would be appreciated

These guys make some heavy duty shackles for chevy's that might fit? They also make a rear shackle flip kit to replace the factory shackle mount that rots. It also lifts the back but would let you take out the lift blocks or go to smaller ones for less wrap.

the shackle mounting bracket's are still black and look great with no rust and the shackle is just completely rusted through.it's almost like dodge did this intencianal.
now after looking at my truck.i think i found the difference,in the application's.my rear leaf's are 3" wide and most everything online seem's to be 2 1/2".
i did get the old shackle off today.i can't believe the bolt's weren't rusted into the coller's of the bushing.

You can get stock replacements from www.dodgeparts.com for $32.70 each. When you go to their site click on OEM catalog, then enter your year make and model and then choose rear suspension, then shackle.

ya tom,a dealer near my house has one in stock.i could toss that in and get the truck rolling again.i would be willing to wait and get something better.
it just bother's me that nothing else under the truck is rusted but the shackle's.
if they were an updated better made replacment,i'd get them.i'd rather replace them with something,i'd never worrie about again.
it's kinda funny how all the dealer's stock them.

This place has them. The catalog is for 94 - 08. If they are to be used on a newer truck you may want to measure yours and give them a call.
