Brakes drums stuck! Help

The brakes on my 97 CTD are grinding
Pulled the wheel off of the back and tried to remove the drum but it was stuck on.
The drum should slide right off the studs correct.

I didnt want to start beating to hard on the drums.
Any suggestions.
Should I apply some heat or use a bigger hammer.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks

Do a search. The highly effective "infidel" method is to lift rear axle and put on jack stands. Remove rear wheel(s). Back off the adjuster. Put one lug nut back on but leave it loose (a second lug nut would be good for safety sake). Start truck up, put in gear, get it spinning good and mash on the brakes. It breaks the drum loose every time. Please pay attention to safety on this one.

Like I said, do a search for a better explanation. It sounds kind of spooky, but it does work. Kevin

I wish i had known about leaving one lug nut on when doing this little trick , i did it this way with mine , worked great , drum came off alright , watched it roll past my window, no damage done , except with the drum now off , the LSD did not have enough grab to get the other side loose , so it came off still on the hub , i had to do axle seals anyways.

I was helping a friend do a brake cylinder replacement on Sat. I asked how he was going to get the drums off, he showed me his hand sledge. After about ten minutes of pounding he came to me and said he was going to the barn to get a bigger hammer. In the three minutes he was gone I fired it up and slammed on the brakes, broke them lose, didn't say anything when he returned...

I never even try with a hammer anymore.
