boost launch

Hey, my buddy has a 2000 dodge with a build tranny and other mods to put him about the 400hp range, no billet shafts though and he wants to do boost launchs at the track to help with his time, i dont recommend it but since he is hard headed but would you say would be the right boost # to do it at. he wont listen so im just trying to get him some info.

There's no guarantee when it comes to boosted launches. Way to many factors to consider.

I would not do any boosted launches with OEM shafts myself, but a lot of guys will go to 5-7 psi without too many problems. However, may billet shafts have broken at 15psi. You are always taking a chance doing this.

I would recommend launching at a rpm compatible with the converter. Using boost to launch off of is too unpredictable. That's if you care about consistency.

Remember, a busted input can take out more than just the shaft. Flexplates, converters, pumps, ect have all been damaged doing these maneuvers. Not saying to not do it, just know that a rebuild may be necessary with any broken component.

Billet shafts for one. And some of the trucks are launching at much higher pressures than that.

The difficulty comes from the fact that boost does not mean power. Very large twinsets on a loose converter can make more boost at the line and leave with less shock load than a smaller set and a tight converter. Just the way it is.

And if you lose tracking, then hook back up, all bets are off.
