Bleeding power steering - click, click, click
I swapped out my steering box today. The new box is a 4.25 turn lock to lock. When it came time to bleed the system, I had the wife get in the truck to turn the wheel. Pitman arm is disconnected for this procedure. Wheel was all the way left when I filled the res to full cold. I had the wife turn the wheel right. When she got to the right lock, I heard click, click, click. Did I screw something up? That was the only time I heard the click. I've made about 25 cycles so far and have not heard it click again.

Yes, I turned the wheel slightly to line up the keyway on the new box. I turned it by grabbing the shaft. I'd say I turned it a quarter of turn. I was thinking clock spring also. If it was the clock spring, did I screw it up?

If your air bag light comes on when you are done and the horn and steering wheel controls don't work than yes. If all works and light is not on I would not worry about it.
Let me know how that box works out for you. I am about done with my AGR box.

Thanks, for the info. I'll keep you updated.
One more question. How many times do I have to cycle the wheel to bleed the system? I've cycled about 40 times now and only had to add a minimum amount of fluid to get back to full cold.

have you been stepping on the brake pedal also? I had a lot of bubbles when i applied the brakes. I cycled mine back and fourth about 20 times. did the brakes several times and then turned the wheel back and forth some more. I also bumped the started and that brought the level down a bit so I did that a few times also.

Yeah, I finally got it. I could not get the level to drop just by cycling the wheel. I pressed the brakes 3 times, started the truck and shut it off immediately. That brought the level way down. After that, I was able to successfully bleed the system by cycling the wheel (level continuously dropped and then stabalized).
After 5 weeks of sitting at the body shop, my tires had only 20 psi. I wanted to air them up before going for a test drive, but the wife nearly wacked me with a rollin pin when I cranked up the compressor at 11:30 at night . So I'll test drive it in the morning.

Looks like it's time for a new clockspring!!! Air bag light is on, but the horn still works. I have not tried CC yet. Anyone know of a non-dealer location to get a new clockspring?
Steering box is a big improvement over what I had before. I can now stay on the road. After I get some seat time, I'll be able to comment more.
