Re:BFG A/T TA's -or- Cooper Discoverer AT

oh yeah. I know all about the Kumho Powerguard's, and im pretty far south!

buddy of mine used to run them all the time on his 96 2500 4x4 ctd. 33x12.50x16.50 they wear decent, and are good in the mud. As a matter of fact, I tried to order some back in september, and they were on national backorder. Had to go with a "Wild Spirit"?? some offbrand. Only 33x12.50x16.5 i could find. i put 2 of them on back of my 97 2500 2wd for some more traction.

anywho, Kumhos are good!

Thank you all of the excellent comments! They really help in finalizing my plan.

Now, the motha' question:

Is anyone running 315's on 8 inch rims, and if so, how do you like the stability and wear?

Thanks again....Sonny

Sonny, u better go back and read the start of this thread as your question was discussed.

315's on stock 8" is not advised....you may even have some trouble finding a place that will mount them for you.

Have you checked out the Cooper S/T's???

http://www.coopertire.com/us/en/Prod...uck&id=190

Has anybody ran these??
[/quote] I have the Discoverer ST's on for about a month now. Too early to comment on treadwear. Traction thus far has been great, waiting for some decent snowfall to really test 'em out. For a meaty, agressive tread pattern, I'm impressed on how quiet they are at highway speed on dry pavement. They look nice too!

Dr., I agree that my earlier question was discussed and have noted yours and others opinions. My last inquiry was simply to see if anyone was running the 315's on 8 inch rims, not that it was my conclusion to do so.

Thanks

I just thought you may have missed those posts.

I want to run the 315's myself....I guess Im too cheap to shell out for wider rims....

Hopefully some guys will give us more confirmation.

Chaulk one up for the Discoverer S/T's for me. I have had them for little over half a year and they are wearing great, 18k on them and they still look like new. And that is a lot of hard running on gravel roads. Been supper in the mud for me.

I'll throw in my 2c... that may be off topic due to the difference in dimension.

I am running BFG Muds in 255/85R16. My truck handles better than any truck I tried with wider tires, especially if mounted on narrow rims. Idon't have the steering wander etc. Especially on sludge the narrow tire will cut through and provide traction where the wider ones will swim.

Yeah tall and narrow is better for mud, snow and such....allows you to dig in rather than float on top, like with a wider tire.

Why buy BFGs (Michelin) from the French who stiff the USA every chance they get. I stopped buying BFGs (French) and put on Bridgestones (Japanese) from Costco 285-75-16. They work great.

Ive read that the Bridgestones dont last very well at all....I personally want to find the best tire for my hard earned money - I could care less who makes it...after all they all cost money...just my opinion...
