Back @ the trough w/steering wheel noise

I have a problem with a grinding/creeking noise when turning the steering wheel also I feel the steering wheel takes more effort than it should. earlier in the year I got a couple of possible fixs to the problem from y'all. I drained the power steering pump and refilled, didn't help the noise any did help a little with the effort in turning. The pump is not leaking fluid, would a vacuum leak cause the stiffness in turning? I have tilt steering could the stiffness in turning have caused a problem with a gear in the steering wheel it's starting to drive me crazy!

Sounds like possible a steering box going south. I believe the joint in the tilt is a small u-joint set up that shouldn't go bad.

I'd try having someone turn it while you feel the steering box.

A vac leak shouldn't cause grinding.....

You can put a stethoscope on tracking the noise. My PS pump makes noise when cold & I don't use synthetic fluid. Is your pump going?

You know I think my dad's 94 does the same thing. Try pulling the steering column surround behind the wheel and see if there is a place to lube it.

i've heard that steering column noises can be fixed by installing the rock solid ram steering bushing (just do a search for it on the internet).....i wouldn't advise doing it though if it's an automatic....people say that it makes your gear shift & steering wheel bind up in cold temperatures....i think it works better for the standard shift trucks....i have an 02' & steering column makes the weird "moaning" noise at times that you are talking about....i didn't replace my steering bushing though cause' it's an auto....i've just learned to ignore the noise.....
