Axle wrap problems

Axle wrap problems
When I got my truck, I didn't have any axle wrap problems - most likely because the PO never towed or did anything heavy with it and the springs were pretty well rusted together. After the first few times I pulled my trailer with it, things definitely loosened up, and I started having axle wrap problems in the rear.
Its finally starting to drive me nuts - is this a common problem with these trucks? Mine's a '96 3500 DRW. I'm thinking about building an antiwrap bar for the rear but if this is one of those problems that's usually caused by something else - i'd rather check it out. I will say that the rear does feel kind of 'loose' on bumpy pavement sometimes - I did check the springs / ubolts / blocks & everything seems fine there.

Id recommend ladder bars if youre having problems. I launched mine hard once and hit a pothole that bounced the wheel up and when the spring unwrapped it hopped me onto the other side of the road. Really unnerving..

Yes, ladder bars are the usual cure for this problem.
You could replace the springs with some fresh ones but will probably end up needing the bars anyway. If you can make them yourself you'll save some money.

How many miles are on the truck? I wouldn't think there would be much wrap on a one ton, not an expert though! I have a 4 door extended cab, with long bed and camper package, so it has same springs, but I only had problems hopping until I got new shocks, really tamed things down over the bumps under load. Maybe check the parts with a prybar too if you haven't already, I've seen spring bushings check out by hand but with some good pressure had play in them. Good luck.
