Anyone had their truck repainted?

I'm looking to get my truck repainted and wondering what I should expect to pay? The truck is a 96 club cab long bed. The truck was originally red and I'm keeping it that color. The paint started to bubble around the rear wheel wells and bottoms of the door. I have already purchased a rust/dent free bed and two doors. Other then that there is one small dent on the front fender. I would also be providing new emblems, trim pieces, window/door seals.

The only price I have got so far was 4500$ labor and paint materials and also this wasn't painting the inside of the bed becuase I want to get Line-X or rhino lining. This sounded high to me, what do you all think?

In the world of paint you ussually get what you pay for, although $4500 does seem alittle high, but the difference in price in different colors of red can be substantial and you should see whether it is the paint that is spendy or the labor.

That's not really high. Assuming that it's a good shop that will do a good job. My brothers run a paint and body shop and they would probably charge more than that. Materials alone for a truck the size or ours get pretty pricey.

You can find places to do it cheaper, but wait a year or so and see what it looks like. Just my opinion.

Materials are not the thing that makes the price so high it is all the time that is put into it. I repainted my old truck for less than $300 in materials including paint. But me and the father did it. I did all the work he just sprayed it. It is not nothing real fancy like some have but it was done and designed by me and I liked it.

He said paint materials would be around 1100$ PPG Global finish. I don't know if he meant paint, primer, clear coat, etc. or just the paint. I didn't get a detailed written estimate yet, just a verbal. This was done by a respectable body shop in my town, but not the best. I got in a fender bender with a 2000 Dodge I had and took it to this body shop. But my dad has an 07 escalade that got hit in a parking lot and he refused to take it there. I guess I'm just worried. For me to spend 4500$ I want a very quality job done.

And I totally agree you get what you pay for, but I want to make sure I'm not paying too much for what I'm getting

i used to have a shop, and if using ppg global products, and the work is great, then that would be a pretty good price....i think you get a "good" job done for a little cheaper, however, if their work is pretty "perfect" then thats pretty close on the pricing in my opinion...

That's a fair price for new paint, especially considering the PPG system they're spec'ing.

Most of the money is tied up in shop time, so ask them how much it'd be if you did the prep work (if you're able to), such as removing or masking trim, glass, bumper etc.

If it's a busy shop, they won't mind sharing the load (though they might not offer the same warranty), if they need the money they'll refuse...

repaint

I had my 93 extended cab dually painted this spring. It was right at $6000.with PPG materials. But I had the truck stripped to bare metal, glass pulled out,bed off, dually fenders off etc.It looks better than when I bought it in 93.
$4500 isn't a bad price if the job is done right, time they change the doors, get them to fit properly, change out the locks, swap out the bed etc.

any ideas what it would cost to get a quad cab/long bed repainted a different color? Mines light almond pearl from the factory, and I can't say I'm a huge fan of it. I've got a few small dents in the bed and the roof, and the paints getting pretty crappy on the hood and roof as well, so I'm gonna have to get it done in a few years anyways. Its also gonna need new front fenders if I ever repaint it. Who ever had it before me hacked the bottom, rear corners of the fenders off for tire clearance, and I didn't catch that until after I bought it. I really like that new blue color they have on the new pickups. Either that, or I used to have a 05 jeep that was that Impact orange color. I really like that too.

Gosh! $6000? $4500? I must be out of touch. I was planning on getting my truck repainted at some point but if it's going to cost me that much to restore it just for paint then I might be better off just buying a newer truck!

Hey, KMKDiesel, that looks pretty good.

$4500-$6000 ouch. I know that I'm a bit thrifty (ok, you can read cheap), but that still seems like a lot of money. I'm not saying that those shops are ripping you off - they probably aren't as time is expensive - but unless you plan on keeping the truck for a long time, I don't think that you can recoup that money.

I haven't done this, but look at what this fellow did..... with Tremclad !!!

Thats why I went the flatbed route, 1/2 the cost is in the bed and tailgate.

Brand new flatbed was $1200 and I have two people comming this weekend to look at buying my old bed for $400.

If we ever end up with a beater rig that has more acne than a pubescent teen, I'd like to shoot the whole thing with Rhino lining or equivalent...
