Any A/C experts out there?
I acquired my truck from my father-in-law last September. It was parked for a few years on his property and I'm in the process of getting it all to 100%.
The a/c system has a leak somewhere but I don't know where. When the FIL had the truck he was told that there is an o-ring that needs to be change but it was labour intensive to change it. Since this wasn't his primary truck he didn't get it fixed. Now I want to fix it but he has no idea where the leak is. Is there a common o-ring that can leak? Since it sounds like a lot of work could it be in the compressor?
Thanks all.

The "common" o ring/seal that leaks on all A/C systems is the compressor front seal, but that being said what Pat said is quite correct, chances are it is the "dreaded" evaporator. Dont take anything apart until you pin point the leak. Modern electronic leak detectors can determine if the evaporator is leaking.

I did the uv dye and also bought a sniffer from Harbor Freight. Possible o-rings would be nice, just swap them around on the back of the compressor. If it turns out the compressor is bad, they are an easy swap, but add a new drier to the system as well. If it is that other evil core in the dash you will see glowy stuff in the vents with the uv, or be able to sniff freon in the vents.
I did both to my truck, and the dash one really isn't that bad if you have a friend and lots of time/patience. I couldn't put up 1000 dollars to a dealer to have them change the core out, so myself and a friend knocked it out in a long afternoon.
