Air Filters/Pre Filters

So heres the deal for some reason I can not get a very long life out of my air filters being in the factory air box with the boot missing cause it fell out some were down the trail. I live and work in the dust during hay crops and working cattle and seems that the turbo just loves too suck the dust up and plug the heck out of my filters. Any thing a guy can do too make a pre-filter of sorts too go over the factory whole like a outer wears or something and slip it over the box???? I can always tell when its starting too plug as the truck has zero power and refuses too build boost or get me any air too cool down my egts and smokes like a train when I shift

I am running an Airaid quickfit filter, and a prefilter. I like it, but I don't live in a real dusty environment either.

You should get some good life out of a BHAF with an outerwear.

I have thought about a bhaf but then the other problem is water in the winter I don't want too be switching back and forth from the bhaf and the stock box. I looked on outerwear web sight and they have a outerwear thats a panel for the oem air filters I might pickup one and run it see what i think. Only thing is I wonder if that thing is a one time use as it looks glued on too the filter and for 7 bucks I guess I could pickup a couple and see how long I get out of them and if they help the life of the filter so I dont have too knock dirt out of the filter once ever two weeks. I might try the bhaf too see if it helps but then I would have too build some kind of a heat shield.

I second going with a BHAF and an Outerwear for it...I know I wish I had picked up an Outerwear when I converted my truck to a BHAF. I think the biggest advantage for you with converting to a BHAF is no box. No box to have to open up to get to the filter and clean off the straw/dust. No chance of excess dust and debris falling into the box each time you pull the air cleaner to knock the crap off of it. All you'll have to do is open the hood and brush off the Outerwear and be on your way. I'm sure there will be times you'll have to pull the Outerwear and give it a good cleaning, but, at least you know it's doing it's job keeping water and debris from ruining your filter. If that doesn't convince you, then how about the turbo whine will be louder with a BHAF.

Not to mention it'll look cool!

(The outerwear hadn't arrived yet when I took the picture.)

Looking at that photo I don't think that will fit with my exhaust brake

What about if you don't make a heat shield like mine?
