I got a bosshog... it was cheap and it is TOUGH!!! 2 days after I put it on, a drunk pulled out in front of me and I drove away without more than a few scratches in the powder coat.... I touched it up with black paint and it's good as new. I love this thing... especially compared to my factory bumper that crushed like a tin can from a 15 mph bump when I rearended an accord that cut me off on the freeway... That was a sad day... it took out the tranny cooler and the ac condensor... after 3 hrs to yank the bumper off, and bypass the tranny cooler so I get home... I had to replace both and then pay a shop to do a vacuum flush and fill on my ac... at least it didn't hurt the radiator or the intercooler... those are pricey items...
Anyway... point is... this didn't happen with the new bumper... the plates that mount the 6" pipe to the frame are 1/2" thick plate (lie the push bars on a cop car, but they're solid and go back to the boxed frame) and the pipe is 1/4" thick... it's a pretty tough bumper. I hope to get the matching rear and a set of tailight cages and some steps this summer... finish off the roadwarrior look with all that and a skid plate (I'll make that from sheet metal) and a new set of super swampers... I'll have the ugliest truck at school... I hear girls like that. LOL.

I guess I caught the bug too. I am upgrading to a road armor bumper for my truck after t-boning another pickup on the highway. Along with the other modifications that I haven't bothered to list in my tag, it should look and function nicely. Also, I don't have a welder or the ability to build one of these bumpers, so the price wasn't all that bad as long as I looked away as I signed the check.

I found bumper that I actually like
It's javelina bumper. Ive emailed them and they said they dont have one for 2001. I'm pretty upset cause that's pretty much only bumper I like so far that's tough, clean looking and fairly inexpensive.

that looks pretty **** good. if they fabbed it up for you - could you get the dimensions from them and possibly pass them along . . . if so, just PM me and I can send you my email address.
could you get some pics of the light mounts and bumper mounts from in behind the bumper?
did they do this from scratch - or did they go off of something else?

that's what I was thinking. We need to get group buy going and then he probably would make one and possibly at a discount, depending on how many people we could get in the deal.

i contacted 'Hendry's' about the Javelina bumper for the second gen trucks. his reply was that he is considering starting to make them for our trucks.
i asked him about a timeframe, still waiting to hear back . . .
the javelina is made of 12 gauge steel - that seems a little thin doesn't it?
what thicknesses to the other bumper makers use (RA, Buckstop, TDK, Fab Fours, etc.)? he said his javelina would be comparable to RA toughness-wise, but i thought RA's were beefier than 12 gauge steel.
anyone have any info/insight on this?

I've got a Buckstop on my 01 and absolutely love it.
The center part of the bumper is 1/4" steel and the side parts are 3/16" steel. It is HEAVY! I think they told me it's close to 200 pounds over the stock one.
