AC Stop Leak?

I was wondering if there are any situations at all that you guys would use stop leak in an AC system.

I have a leak in my AC & I'm pretty sure it's in the evaporator core. It will hold freon for about 3 - 4 months & work well. After few months it's basically all gone.

I've heard where there are types of stop leak that are different & react to oxygen instead of moisture.

Anybody tried any stop leak & had it work or is it not recommended at all on these trucks?

Here's my experience, FWIW:

I bought a 1994 truck in the Fall of 2000 and found the A/C not working. A garage up the road tested the system and found the leak to be "minor" and installed some sort of stop-leak stuff and a recharge. It worked fine for a year and the following Spring (2002) it wasn't working again. I put a charge into the system myself and don't remember touching it again before I sold it in 2007.

My 2001 has a similar problem and I'm going to give the stop-leak a try again.

YMMV:

I had a leak in my AC system and my mechanic checked the system and could find nothing. The leak was undoutably in the condenser. We put 2 cans of stop leak in over a 3 month period and all seems to be well. The system has been holding for over a year now. I do not remember the type of stop leak. Good luck.

Have a couple from Wisconsin spend winters in our RV Park in Alabama. Their 2500 had a leak, we charged it a couple of times. When they went home in the spring they had it checked. Their mechanic told them that it needed a new compressor. He suggested a can of stop-leak. It has been holding for over a year, I recently added a can of freon. Both my 98.5's leak and I just put a can of stop-leak in each one and they are holding well. Hard to believe but looks like it is worth a try.

Thanks for the information guys. I was just wondering what kind of experience others have had with it. For some reason my mechanic said that he would stay away from stop leak when I asked him about it. I think it may be because it may mess up their equipment they use to evacuate the AC systems.

I'm just thinking that with such a minor leak that it would be nice if stop leak would fix the problem. I'm looking for an easy way out of having to pull the dashboard to fix the leak in the evaporator.
