97' 2500...Is it worth it??

I just went and looked at a 97' 2500 diesel. standard cab. The truck needs work. Needs an exhaust, will need 4 tires, feels like a loose ball joint, the ABS and brake light are on on the dash. The battery is held in by bungee cords.. No rust anywhere wich is a good thing. It has 85,000 miles. It puffed a little blue smoke on cold startup but cleared up in a couple minutes. the truck has been sitting. It ran pretty good and smooth. Whats it worth about? I could get it for about 4500$. Thanks!!

Sounds like its worth it. If you can do the work yourself, thats even better.

If you have the money i would factor in an overhead and a brake job.

overhead would be pulling the valve cover and setting the valves

I can do all the work myself. It's going to be a plow truck. I need some more confidence votes.. C'mon people should I jump on it?? These trucks are going for 10,000 plus with over 200,000 miles.......

What you described...Its worth it.I would jump on it.Where I live,we don't see dodge diesel trucks going for that price. That truck would sell for at least double....The milage is also very very low....I would take a chance...

The engine by itself is worth that. If the repairs become too much to handle you could part it out for more than $4500.

If the body and interior are good. Sounds like a good deal to me! The 85k miles is enough to make the deal imo. You say it "needs an exhaust" like it's a bad thing...

are you joking thats the cheapest priced truck i've ever heard of i would buy it asap the brake is most likely on becuase it need brake fluid check that first. the abs could be a $400 part but even if it is your still only into this truck for 4900 and then tires are 600-alot depending on size of course and the balljoints aren't that much.

Don't worry about it. Could've cost you 2x that in just parts.
