at 77,000 i am replacing the rear pads today and the fronts i did at about 70,000. they were toast. i should have replaced the rotors but the new pads will wear into the old rotors.

I got a little over 51,000 out of my original pads, with the way i drive i probably could have gotten about 55,000 or 60,000. They weren't too bad but i wanted to change mine before they got down too far.

Did the front brakes on my '01 yesterday. First brake job the truck has had and it's at 72,000 miles. Still had about 1/4" of material left on the pads, but the rotor were heavily worn. I took the rotors up to have them turned, but they were both under minimum thickness. $229 later had me set up with a pair of new Wagner rotors and set of Wagner Thermo-Quiet pads.
I was a bit disappointed in the fact that after 72k there was still brake pad left, but the rotors were shot.

My original fronts went about 90k. On the next 70k or so, I've been thru two sets of Brand X. I had a rear brake cylinder replaced today, and the rear pads still look almost new. I don't know if that's good or bad.

If so that's the first I've heard of the OEMs wearing rotors unless the pads are all the way down to bare metal.
Usually it's when folks use long life/ lifetime pads that their rotors get trashed.
