I finally had time this weekend to diagnose my issues with the 4wd light not coming on. I jumpered the cable and the light came on so now I am looking to replace the vacuum operated 4wd actuator. I did a quick search and didn't find anything. Are there any posts on here anywhere explaining what is involved in this job? from the outside it doesn't look too complicated but I have no idea what the internal mechanism and linkages are going to be like.
As always any help is most appreciated. I suspect it is time for me to buy the Chilton's book for this truck unless folks recommed a different shop/repair manual.

Go on Amazon.com and do a search for: Dorman 600-202 OE Solutions 4-Wheel Actuator . $65 + free shipping. That's all you need. Do a search on this site for CAD or something like that to find out how to actually change the thing out. Takes about half an hour....

Chilton's stinks. PM me your e-mail for a better alternative....

To remove the CAD, just remove the elect/vacuum stuff the four mount bolts pull it off. You will get some oil but not a lot. Should have new gasket but RTV will work, make sure you check the pads on the fork. There is a kit out there somewhere but I don't have a link to it.

Fix the problem simply and permanently for about $30 by following these instructions> http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=595515

My 1995 4WD light would not work either. There is a wire loom runnning up the frame rail and it T's off to another loom that goes underneath the radiator. There was a 2 wire plug just slightly towards the passenger side of this T that had ripped out of it's socket. Went to junk yard, got a replacement plug, spliced it in and what do you know, light works.
