3rd gen wheels/caps 2nd gen truck
Anyone know of some info or pictures I can look at to see how to cut the rear caps to make them fit over the axle extension? I've seen a truck with these did some research and all I found were 3rd gen caps on H2 wheels, they are the chrom 3rd gen wheels if it helps.

I cant get the picture to post in two threads so you will have to go to the "2nd gen pics" thread and look at my picture. Its post number 40 on the third page and the wheels I have on my 99 are off and an 05. Are they the type wheel you are after?

Yes I believe mine are from an 05 as well, I'll take a look at the pictures thanks
now the question, how did you get them to fit?

Only thing I can think of is maybe the guy I bought the wheels from replaced them at some point for some reason and happened to get the deeper cap. They were definately off a gen 3 truck as I saw the truck when I bought them.

I'll take a picture of my axle and see if it looks like yours, because there is no way that it is going to fit without "some" modifications, are there two different caps? if so anyone know part numbers? I'll get the number from the ones I have too, see if they match yours thanks.

part number on my center cap is 52121450AA anyone know if there is another number maybe? perhaps a deeper cap, I don't know just wondering why someone with the same truck wouldn't have this problem

Is that a steel wheel with the chrome clad? I just put my 05 wheels on my 01 this week and had no probs. I do have that gap if i try to put my 01 centers on the 05 wheels though. Mine are the polished aluminum wheels like the pict above.

after some research I think they are from an '03, they look just like these

there is a gap with the cap on, I'm afraid since the clips aren't fully behind the lugs they will fly off while I'm driving.

Well it's still abovo 60 degrees here so I risked hypothermia and went out and found from the wheel flange (smooth area between the lug nuts) to the end of the axle (area between axle retaining bolts) I get about 1.5 inches on mine. Looking at your pict you seem to have way more than that. Are they steel wheels with the chrome cladding? I'm thinking the 2500/3500sw were all aluminum wheels, and only the 1500 had the steel/chrome cladding.

well looking here I see there is a steel/chrome clad wheel. I'm thinking the center flange has to be thinner than the alloy wheels so perhaps there is a different center cap??? Guess most I've noticed (work on them daily) were of the alloy sorts.

I was thinking about maybe putting spacers behind the wheel, maybe 1/4" to 1/2" and see if it will go all the way on, will probably make the tires stick out a little bit, but thats okay, should be easier than trying to grind out the cap.
