That would not make sense. The rings wear out faster than the bearings do. There are countless posts about blowby, which is caused by ring wear, and I do not recall any posts about rod bearings failing.

Thanks GAmes... people were writing about this on the old TurboDieselReg site back about 2002 or so... I was a member there for some years before I found DTR!

No. The only time I've opened the engine was to replace the head gasket at about 189k and the oil pan gasket about 2k ago. I had my blowby checked last year (maybe 60k ago) and it was very low, about 4 inches. Excessive is something like 12 inches.
