I have 285's and like them but with my next set I think I might try 255/85's...a little more than an inch narrower and just a little taller. There are very few a/t tires in that size, mostly mud terrains, but there are some.
Aren't taller thinner tires supposed to be better in snow (not REALLY deep obviously) and ice? Plus they would be lighter which MAY help with mileage.
Just my $.02

yes, you can run them on a stock height 2wd if you use stock rims, and you'll get a little rubbing on the inner fender sometimes
285's are a great tire on a 4x4. I wanted 255/85, but finding a decent E rated version put me in the $250/tire range! so I went w/ the 285 BFG AT's at $170/tire. glad I did, they look great and wear great

If you are looking for an even better look, go get a leveling kit and get some 315's, take a look at my profile pictures I have them on my truck and I get quite a few complements and you sit up just abit higher that makes your truck alil more unique from what I have seen. Just my 2 cents though...also, if you go with 315's, make sure you get your spedo re calibrated. I got pulled over when I thought I was doin 75, turned out I was doing over 85

I had D rated 315's on my truck and I hated the way they rode/drove... I would consider trying an E rated 315, but the prices on them was just too high to justify. the truck drives/stops/steers so much better w/ the 285's than it did w/ the 315's
