Question 2001.5 or just 2001?

New to the diesels. I've seen some folks post their specifics as 2001.5 I have a 2001---how do I tell if it's a .5 ? Is there a difference?

Dodge changed a few things in the last half of the model year. I have heard that if your truck has rear disc brakes you have an 01.5 Personally i have drums. I'm sure there are a few other tells but i don't know them.

Mine has a black antenna and had rear cupholders. Maybe it was a sport thing?

I have a 2001.5 Sport with rear discs, rear cup holder, and black antenna(the whole truck is black due to the sport package and color matched bumpers).

There's a few other variables besides silver antenna, rear discs, and missing cupholder. Many 01.5's have no lighted ignition ring, hood insulation and only the 2 piece body moldings on the quads. Some early change overs usually have some but not all of the new design changes/decisions. My 01.5 has the underhood insulation but a few I looked at didn't. Rear discs are a dead bet its an 01.5 or 02.

Yeah, I stated there are probably some in the gray area of the changeover period. Mine was manufactured in 3/01 so was well into the 01.5 models. The underhood insulation seems to be on a lot of 01.5's.

Too funny. 10:45pm just getting ready to hit the sack when I started reading responses--was so curious I had to go out and look at my truck. Black antena (never gave it much thought).
Rear cup holder (extend cab); noticed this before and thought it was "nice to have"
Ignition ring light: not.
Brakes; honestly thought the were drum...nope, they're disk.
Reckon that means I have a 2001.5....huh, who would'a thunk it.
Odd that the only real "performance" impacting identification feature would be the brakes. Thanks yall! time for bed.

What about Sport models...any differences there (besides no side moldings and headlights & painted sport bumpers n' grille) ?

I have an '01 Sport...don't know if it's '01.5 (I think the door sticker says Jan 01)...BUT...

I have:

- rear disk brakes
- hood insulation with light
- non-illuminating key ring
- black antenna
- don't know about the rear cupholders, will have to check for those later...where would they be?

So if my truck is a January build Sport model, how can it be an '01.5 but still have all the features of an '01.5??

Well my truck is an 01 built in May of 00...so the calendar year is not the basis, it would be whenever the model is introduced/available. It has the drums, cupholders, black antenna, molding on doors, lighted ignition ring...I think that is it. I think there is one more thing that changed...number of leaves in the rear?

The door molding is present on 01.5's and 02's. Its just the two piece version: one on the door and one on the quad door. I think the 01's had a third piece on the back of the cab and earlier models had it back to the rear fenderwell. Also somewhere inthere the tailgate cladding along the bottom of the gate was dropped. Oh yeah, Apparently the Model year for the next series starts around September of the previous calendar year. So anything with a build date of 09/00 could very possibly be an 01 or an 01.5. Disc brakes on the rear are really the deciding factor as to the 01.5 designation. Everything else is just chance and didn't start as solidly arriving till 02.

the rear cup holders would be under the front center seat on the bottom, unless they changed them from 99 to 01.5...shouldn't have though
