1996 verse 2005 HP and torque

This old man would like to know from some of you experts what the difference is between my beautiful old green 1996 and the new white 2005, my wife orderd for me on our 29th anniversary.

horse power and torque, and any other pro's and con's you can help me with.

I know I will miss the 22 - 24 hwy mileage I get with the 3.54 gear vs 3.73, but could use your expert advise.

Thanks in advance John H (aka Hemlockusa)

I first must say that I am getting married in February and I hope I get that nice of a gift for an anniversary some day. Secondly, I have an 03. I get 20-21mpg with 3.73 gears and a 6 speed. Power wise. 96 160-180hp vs 05 325hp and 610lb ft. It is like night and day unless you have bombed your 96. You might enjoy the comfort features in the new one. Lastly, if you are looking to get rid of the 96, let me know. I am looking for an older 4x4 at a decent price, since we are buying house.

Congrats on 29 years and a new truck!

Nick

HI Nick - Thanks for the come back, the 1996 I have is a 3500 dually no 4x4 155K and going strong. last 7500 mile trip - dip stick still on the line. Synthetics top to bottom in this truck since new.
I think the neighbor wants it, have to wait and see.

That is quite a difference in hp and torque - However I have never had any problem pulling my 8900# TT 32 foot.

Thanks again Later John H (aka Hemlockusa)

yes the 2005 will be much more powerful and have a much larger powerband compared to you 12v but a #10 plate and governer springs would make that old 12v run harder than the newer trucks.

I have a 04.5 600 6spd and a 95 that is bone stock. The new one will definatly pull like crazy. I havent hooked a load to the 95 yet but I can tell you that I enjoy driving it much more than the new one. Both are nice and should do well at towing but the power below the torque curve definatly goes to the 12V. You will miss the milage of your old truck but love the new one. Enjoy it.

Well stock to stock

Manual to manual

1996 is 215 hp and 440 TQ
2005 is 325 HP and 610 TQ

My truck is currently at its light setting at 330 and 700 plus tq it will outpull any new stock CTD... im happy with it. Congrats on 29 years on my behalf, and hope you enjoy your new ride. The old 12V is a tq monster, but that new 24V is oh so smooth in everything, and a new truck is always nice... hope i know that pleasure one of these days...
