01 Ram Parking Brake Adjustment

I have an 01 Ram 2500 4x4 6speed. On flat or slightly inclined surfaces, the parking brake holds fine, but on a steeper grade, the truck will roll 5 - 6' before the parking brake grabs. What is the correct procedure for adjusting the parking brake? I did look underneath, and noticed the adjustable nut on the long screw rod, but did not want to mess with it until I got a 2nd opinion on the procedure.

Great question, I have been wondering myself. The turnbuckle looking thing on my cable is not far from being maxxed out, not to mention I have no idea what kind of wrench or socket you would use to get in that bracket? Kinda tight in there....

Sorry, I forgot to mention on the 01's, rear brakes are disks and not drums.

It still has a small set of shoes for the parking brakes. Its like a rotor and a drum
combined.]

Also check for a leaky wheel seal.

Interesting that you should suggest that. I did notice an oily or wet substance on the right rear caliper. What will a leaky wheel seal do to the parking brake? I know it needs to be fixed, just interested in how it comes into play with the brake.

If you have disks in the rear then you have no wheel cylinders...Your parking brake adjustment is done by taking the caliper off taking the caliper braket off then pull the rotor off and the parking brake is a O shape with about a 2" or so peice missing (You will see it and notice it) all you ave to do is adjust that. But make sure you have enought shoe b4 you adjust them cause you will have a bigger problem if you adjust them without very much shoe.
