Wierd Switch pad under battery ????

OK, so I have my truck totally tore apart doing my P pump conversion ... and I notice this round pad that has two wires leading from it underneath the drivers side battery????? What the heck is this for ?? Some kind of sensor to tell the computer that the battery is removed ??? Why ????

Could it be a heater? They do make heating pads that look like that and come in various sizes/shapes?

That is the battery temperature sensor. The ECM can throttle back on the rate of charge if the battery is getting hot.

Why they only put one sensor in a 2 battery vehicle is puzzling to me.

Correct.

In the winter time the truck will charge the batteries higher vs in the summer time. And I suppose if there was a problem with the battery, getting old, over heating, etc you would be able to notice the decrease of voltage on the gauge in the truck.
